Silence Between Us: A Father's War, A Son's Voice is a heartwarming story about a son's love and respect for his father and the bond they formed over the years. Bill Sioulas writes from his heart about his father Alexandros' journey from a small town in Greece to his time in a concentration camp in Austria during World War II to his new life and success in Canada. Siloulas paints a vivid picture of a father who was haunted by memories of the war but in later years quietly shared his remembrances of that time that he scribbled on tiny coffee-stained placemats. It's that discovery that stands out in this nicely told tale of a father-son friendship. The book is filled with lovely photos of Alexandros during the war and of his son Bill, a successful Ottawa businessman, as well as family photos, maps and Greek passages. The book is an enjoyable read with plenty of history and love and distant memories contained in its 254 pages.
